Lessons from the 75th Annual Conference of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA)
In early February of 2023, I had the opportunity to attend the prestigious 75th Annual Conference of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) held in Amritsar. Here’s what I was doing over the course of the 2-day conference:
1. Getting in touch with the lingo:
Attending the conference gave me a deeper insight into how radiologists speak to each other and their key concerns. Observing them also allowed me to think about how technology like BrainsightAI’s can assist them.
2. Realizing the potential for AI in Radiology: India has a shortage of radiologists, so AI could support this sector's human resource gap. In addition, the radiologists I met were particularly interested in technology and the latest gadgets. This convinced me they’d be ready for new technology to support their day-to-day work.
3. Witnessing the latest tech in Radiology:
In the demo area of the conference, I saw MRI, CT, and Ultrasound showcases by tech companies. MRI companies are keenly working on sMRI and CT analysis, segmentation, and volumetric analysis. I also saw that many companies are making MRI and CT machines accessible by developing portable machines with better scanning speeds.
4. Learning from AI giants in Radiology: I attended the panel discussion where Dr. Amit, the founding radiologist of Deeptek, and Aman Garg, the business development head of Qure.AI, talked about their startups. Both companies work at scale and have deployed their product internationally, and their work inspired me for our roadmap to success. I connected with Dr. Amit after the talk, and his humility, despite his success, was inspiring to observe.
After the conference, I made it a point to visit the Golden Temple. The serenity I felt at the holy site was a great way to close my trip to Amritsar.
